Summer Assignment

Greetings,

Adrya sent me an email asking me to clearify the IBO summer assignment, and since I know that most, if not all, of you are taking IBO I thought that I would send this email to you as well. Please forward this to anyone else in the class that you can think of. I will put it on our blog as well.

IBO allows you to be the historian (I know you heard this a MILLION TIMES).

The question that I posed for you in the directions, Using two sources from questia.com, analyze the impact that Napoleon had on France and Europe, is vague for a reason.

You are to read two books on Napoleon from questia.com. You can choose ANY TWO books that you want to to read.

However, keep in mind that IBO focuses on INTERNATIONALISM, meaning that the history of a topic can have a very different spin to it depending on the source. For example, a French historian may have a very different opinion on the history of Napolean, than a British historian would. THEREFORE, you should try and choose two books that differ in their opinions regarding Napoleon's reign.

Once you have your books and begin to read them, you should start to formulate your own Plan of the Investigation. This is what the focus of your assignment is going to be on. It will be based on something about Napoleon's history that you found interesting, and that is covered in the two books that you are analyzing- Note that it needs to be appropriate and focused on the question that I posed to you in the directions.

This is the great part about IBO History. YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHAT IT IS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO WRITE ABOUT! There should be no two papers that are a like.

Finally, the best advise that I can give you is to read through the sample paper that I gave you, as well as the grading rubric entitled "Internal Assessment Criteria". They will be able to help you with the actual format of the assignment. Once you do that, feel free to contact me any questions that you may have.

I hope that this helps and that you are all enjoying your summer.
